Apparently, Kalev Leetaru, has come up with a way to liberate historic pictures from books that are public domain on Internet Archive.
So far it looks like he has collected 2.6 million images.
Now, right now they are hard to search, but just browsing and trying some search terms seems to have shown some really great things.
